Newsletter 17 June 2008

I'm delighted that we now have a confirmed list of the children who will be coming to join us in September. We have written twice to all families who have a son or daughter starting at Evelyn Grace Academy in September and are now meeting with each family. If you have not yet made an appointment to attend one of our meetings please contact our office on 0207326 1007.

At these meetings I am making a short presentation about the distinctive features of our new academy and then each family has an individual meeting with one of the small school headteachers or with me.

In the 'About us' section you can read about our mission and our approaches to culture and ethos and learning teaching and assessment. We have produced short summaries of our approach to these important aspects of the new academy for parents. You can also read about our uniform policy.

Staffing

We have very ambitious plans for Evelyn Grace Academy and I am determined to lead a new academy which helps every student achieve great things. When I spoke to parents last autumn I made it clear that, in my view, the key factor which will determine our success will be the quality of teaching and learning your child experiences. I am delighted to report that we have been successful in recruiting a highly skilled and experienced team of leaders and teachers who have chosen to come and work at Evelyn Grace Academy because they like what we are trying to achieve and believe in it.

We have just held our first residential planning conference for our new team of senior and middle leaders. It was a very positive event and I was excited at the prospect of leading a team of such talented staff who have come with a real commitment to making their contribution to an outstanding new academy in Brixton. We have a second planning conference in July and are all looking forward to September.

If you go to the leadership team page you will see brief biographical details of our key new staff.

Accommodation – Temporary Site

Things are now very definitely moving on the site for the temporary accommodation in Somerleyton Road. The site hoarding is up and the building is taking shape. We have posted an image of the finished buildings and site layout on our website. A high priority is being given by Lambeth and ARK to ensure that the new building, although temporary, is attractive, designed to a high specification and has excellent levels of security. I have made several recent site visits and the work is progressing well. We will start to occupy the temporary site from 4th August which will give us plenty of time to prepare for the arrival of our students on 8 September.
