Culture and ethos

Promoting outstanding learning and maintaining excellent standards of behaviour are integral to Evelyn Grace Academy’s ambitions. These are fundamental if every student is to achieve their full potential and become an effective, independent and self-motivated learner.

Developing an aspirational ethos and mindset is at the heart of our work, as we build our new academy. Doing what it takes to get things right means, above all, developing in every student a personal belief that learning matters and that every student can be successful at the highest level.

What does this look like?

Every minute at school counts and at Evelyn Grace Academy every student will respect and enjoy the learning process.

There will be a zero tolerance approach to behaviour that disrupts learning.

Evelyn Grace Academy is a learning community where all adults and students have the right to spend each day in a safe, secure environment and where all are treated with respect.

How will we achieve excellence?

All students follow an intensive induction programme which teaches them to understand, follow and buy into all aspects of Evelyn Grace Academy’s behaviour for learning policy.

We will model and teach the excellent behaviour for learning we expect our students to display at all times. We will report to parents weekly on behaviour for learning.

Excellent behaviour and displaying the Academy’s values will be regularly rewarded. We provide a clear sequence of consequences, sanctions and ‘opportunities to reconcile’ to ensure that all students understand our expectations and learn how to behave.

Student code of conduct

Our rules exist to make our academy an excellent place to be for everyone.

Our Student Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for our students:

  • In the community of Evelyn Grace Academy
  • In lessons
  • In the local and wider community

All of our students will be taught to:

  • Wear their uniform with pride
  • Be prepared for learning
  • Communicate politely and effectively with everyone they meet
  • Make sensible choices and avoid risky behaviour
  • Demonstrate the academy values of excellence, endeavour and self-discipline
