Evelyn Grace Academy is a new academy in Brixton. It opened in September 2008, providing 180 places for Year 7 students. During the school year 2009/10 the new academy will operate as two small schools located in high quality, purpose-built temporary accommodation on Somerleyton Road and on our new Shakespeare Road site. From September 2010, we will move into our state of the art new accommodation on Shakespeare Road, illustrations of which can be found here. Thereafter we will admit a new Y7 intake each year and grow to be a full-sized secondary school with its own sixth form.

This is an exciting development for Brixton. This website sets out Evelyn Grace Academy’s distinctive features. We are determined to do things differently and to do what it takes to achieve the best for our students. We want to demonstrate that the highest expectations can be set and the highest standards achieved by all young people who join the academy as part of a locally based, non-selective intake.

As the Principal of a new academy I have a rare opportunity to lead the development of a new school. I am acutely aware of my responsibility to get things right. In planning a new school, we must remember that young people have only one chance so we must provide an outstanding education for all students from day one.
